Yes, I know, I always claim to be busy...
But this time I really am! Due to a variety of unpleasant circumstances, work has been insanely busy over the last month, with no sign of it slowing down at all; we’re busy adding servers at a huge rate, but the support burden isn’t dropping on the older servers as we’d expect as they get bedded down and the customers get used to how they work.
I think in a lot of cases we’re actually getting hurt by the level of technical support we offer, in that the customers learn that they can do far more - and we’ll help them do it - with their hardware than they expected.
Oh well. The future’s looking promising!
Life itself has been somewhat directionless of late; whether it’s just been work keeping me tired or if there have been other things on my mind I’ve not really been out much since I got back from Australia, and I have a huge backlog of people I need to catch up with RSN.
I’m also single again, which I think has stabilised my mood somewhat but is still not ideal in terms of where I’d like to be with my life. The whole long distance thing really didn’t work for me, and I hate “phone relations” where you spend hours a day on the phone reiterating the same things endlessly, simply because you need contact. We’ll see how this works out.
On the horizon, I need to work out if I can afford to go to DebConf4 or GVADEC(and I have to say, I’m looking forward to seeing what they do for guadec 6 WRT including the number of the conference in the name), or neither. Or both, but that’s pretty implausible.
Guadec was more fun last year, but Debconf was so productive it was untrue. One of the big factors is that GVADEC is in Norway (cheap to get to, expensive once there)(and I was there last year for DebConf), but DebConf is in Brazil(insanely expensive to get to), and that would rule.
